TAI provided engineering, procurement and construction for upgrading the process waste system at Client’s facility located in Frederick, MD. The Client decided to replace two existing submersible pumps utilized in a process waste vault. The pumps are self-priming centrifugal pumps suitable for a wide pH range and easily maintained without entry into the process waste vault. New suction and discharge piping was provided as well.
TAI-SCI provided electrical services, which included the demolition of the existing electrical connections to submersible pumps, wired new pumps with rigid conduit, and provided grounding for new pumps. TAI-SCI also provided mechanical services including procurement and installation of CPVC, installation of centrifugal pumps, and re-worked a diamond plate to cover an the existing vault for MedImmune’s process water pump upgrade.
TAI increased the operational reliability and robustness of the process waste hold and neutralization system. The upgrade included new instrumentation, pumps, valves, designated piping and compressed air tubing. In addition, the project included heat tracing and installation, new electrical services and panels, tank inspection, concrete tank relining and maintenance items including coating of the containment area and pipe support refurbishment. The design included the capability to determine the pH of collecting waste stream(s) & storage and provide to opportunity to divert the waste.
