COMMUNITY OUTREACH

St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore

MISSION: TO ENSURE THOSE IMPACTED BY POVERTY HAVE THE SKILLS, RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITY TO ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

TAI has supported St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore for several years – specifically with their Sarah’s Hope at Hannah More program. The Sarah’s Hope at Hannah More facility is an 85-bed shelter helping homeless families across Baltimore County. Their services include meals, youth activities, tutoring, adult education classes, case management, housing placement, and referrals. TAI has provided volunteers to help with improvements to their facility, organized activities for residents (such as picnics and holiday events) and sponsored donation drives to support ongoing operations.
TAI participates in St. Vincent de Paul’s “Christmas in July” drive to collect toiletries, linens, school supplies, towels and personal care products as well as donated to Camp St. Vincent to put two children through 8 weeks of summer camp located in Patterson Park, Baltimore City.

STEM Program Support

BATTLE 0’ BALTIMORE ROBOTICS COMPETITION

TAI is proud to have sponsored and participated in this year’s Battle o’ Baltimore FIRST Robotics Competition held at Dulaney High School in Baltimore County, Maryland. TAI designed a trophy for the Armistead Engineering Innovation Award honoring the most innovative robot. The award’s base is oiled walnut with three lightning bolts on a turret. It is connected to a solar panel that, when charged, illuminates the lightning bolts in white, green, and blue. Under the lightning bolts, is a cannon to represent the Battle of 1812 in Baltimore. The turret rotates 360 degrees to defend from any angle.
Congratulations to our winners, Power Hawks Robotics based at South River High School in Edgewater, Maryland. Their robot used vision sensors to automate ball pick-up and shooting, programming to integrate driving commands, and a positioner to adjust for balance on a hanging bar.
This was an exciting event to be part of and TAI will continue to support STEM projects to help our youth join our ranks!
Special thanks to our TAI judges who spent the day interviewing each team and discussing their robots.

Operation Homefront

MISSION: BUILD STRONG, STABLE, AND SECURE MILITARY FAMILIES SO THEY CAN THRIVE—NOT SIMPLY STRUGGLE TO GET BY—IN THE COMMUNITIES THAT THEY’VE WORKED SO HARD TO PROTECT.

TAI has participated in Operation Homefront’s Giving Quilt Program. This program supports families of wounded, ill, injured, and deployed military personnel by providing them with gift cards to assist with their financial needs. The gift cards are distributed in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia during the winter holiday season.

Visit OPERATION HOMEFRONT for more information.

Bring Your Child to Work Day

TAI participates in this event to provide children a way to see where their parents spend their days! Staff gave children a tour of the office and provided the children with fun engineering activities to introduce them to the profession and give them an idea of what mom and dad are responsible for at work.

American Red Cross

TAI regularly participates in Blood Drives to help the community supply much-needed blood to those in need. For each unit of blood collected, potentially three lives can be saved. Through TAI’s most recent donors, potentially 72 lives could be saved.

Junior Achievement of Central Maryland

TAI supports the JA BizTown program which is a 10,000 square-foot simulated city where fourth through sixth graders experience hands-on workplace, business, and personal finance challenges.
Volunteers serve as a mentor/coach to a small group of 6-8 students as they operate a real business for the day, encouraging students to communicate and collaborate with one another, while thinking critically and getting creative. Volunteers provide those “ah ha” moments daily as they help students discover the value of themselves, their education, and their future beyond the classroom. Through the experience, volunteers will develop their own communication skills and learning how to effectively manage a team.
