Dan E. Tourgee, PE

Dan E. Tourgee, PE

Dan founded TAI on March 18, 1989. He entered the industry fifteen years prior, through a cooperative education program at Drexel University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He completed his cooperative education at Koppers Company, which then hired him full-time. At Koppers, he managed one of the firm’s largest single contracts in history.

For 30 years, Dan has led his own firm, guided by three tenets: engineering excellence, a constant commitment to employees and clients, and service to society. Today he establishes macro objectives for the firm, and he instills the firm’s long-held company culture:

Dan is a licensed Professional Engineer in Maryland, Kentucky and Virginia. Along with his Bachelor of Science degree from Drexel University, he holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree from Johns Hopkins University.

J. joined TAI shortly after it was founded in 1989. As TAI’s president, he ensures that the ideals embraced in TAI’s Corporate Mission Statement are applied throughout the entire company’s operations.

J. champions TAI’s goals of providing unsurpassed engineering, management and technical services, spanning from the division level, to project teams, to the individual employee. He also ensures that TAI puts into place the most effective management, tools, and systems to enable the company to effectively pursue its vision. In doing so, J. can confidently assure both clients and employees that TAI will be a partner they can value and trust. Brad Boutilier, PE

Brad Boutilier, PE

Brad entered the field of mechanical engineering in 2000 and joined TAI in 2007. As TAI’s principal-in-charge of our Buildings & Facilities and Mechanical Engineering divisions, his overarching goal with the firm is to understand the inner workings of our clients’ businesses so that TAI’s design solutions may be customized to suit their short- and long-term goals. Within his purview, the Buildings & Facilities Division specializes in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection system design for commercial, government, laboratory and healthcare facilities. The Mechanical Engineering Division supports the Buildings & Facilities Division and also specializes in the design of industrial ventilation systems. Brad earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Baltimore. He is a member of the Baltimore Chapter of ASHRAE.

Kevin E. Ecker, PE

Kevin E. Ecker, PE

Kevin brings more than 25 years of engineering design and construction experience in the industries we serve. He directs all aspects of engineering activities and projects within the process and mechanical engineering divisions. In that role, he provides technical consulting and oversight, planning, budgeting, and direction for design engineering. He also contributes to business development and staff professional development. Throughout his career, he has been focused on constructability, accuracy and attention to detail. Kevin is licensed in 19 states and is a member of ISPE and NFPA. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Thomas N. Ioannou

Thomas N. Ioannou

Tom joined TAI as a principal in 1991 to manage the Electrical and Controls Engineering Groups. Since then, he has been guiding the workforce in exceeding client expectations for multiple engineering divisions, as well as several services groups including Mechanical, Electrical and Instrument Technicians. Tom takes specific responsibility for large special projects in assisting with cost estimating and eventual management, ensuring overall project success as principal-in-charge. Tom puts a premium on client relationships, quality construction documents and pride in construction, all of which elevate business relationships to valued partnerships. Tom earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Loyola University Maryland in 1986.

When Alan joined TAI in 1995, he brought more than a decade of experience in the engineering and construction field. Today his focus is the health of the firm’s business relationships. Alan’s guiding question is, “If I were the client, would I hire TAI again?” His role in the acquisition of new business includes establishing business relationships, development of proposals that demonstrate a clear understanding of the client’s requirements, and improving TAI’s ability to meet every client need as a full-service firm. As a manager, he guides project and account management personnel in TAI’s commitment to serving clients as a trusted partner, not as a simple vendor. Alan regularly collaborates with the executive team in making key decisions for the company’s future endeavors. Alan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 1982.

Michael Pendergast

Mike joined TAI in 2003 with more than 20 years of experience in the construction field. As the director of operations for TAI Specialty Construction Electrical and Mechanical Services Divisions, Mike assists in the management of more than 25 electricians, pipefitters, welders and mechanics. His primary duties include marketing, business development, maintaining and expanding the division’s customer base, proposal development, and providing the division manager with needed support and development. His primary duties as the director for TAI’s Electrical Engineering Division are the same. Mike also acts as a project manager for select projects. Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1981.

Glenn L. Reeder, Jr., PE

Glenn provides detailed quality control of all Civil/Structural engineering-related project designs and analyses, reports, drawings, documents, and/or specifications for every submittal, so that our Clients receive the most accurate and correct product possible.  In his role as Director of Civil/Structural Engineering, he is responsible for Client development, project scopes and proposals, development of structural standards, project cost tracking and control, and staff supervision. As a Principal of the firm, he provides consistent and experienced leadership, direction and policy/procedure development for the overall benefit of the company and its staff. Glenn graduated in 1984 from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in AK, DC, DE, IL, IN, KY, MD, ND, NE, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TX, VA, and WV.  He enjoys cycling, working out, home improvement projects, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Tom joined TAI Engineering in 1997. He is responsible for business development, quality control, and managing the execution of project workload for his division. He oversees all personnel in the areas of electrical engineering, automation, instrumentation & controls engineering, systems integration, PLC/HMI programming, and commissioning & startup. The success of his division stems from the diverse experiences of team members, their ability to incorporate company-wide resources, and a responsiveness that allows them to deliver services in a timely way. Tom earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in 1989.

William J. Sminkey

William J. Sminkey

William (Bill)  joined TAI in 2000. Currently he manages the day-to-day operations of the inspection and test division, as well as new business development for the division. He also plays a role in the upper-level management of the Site Safety Services division. Bill spent the early part of his career working in the metal fabrication and material testing industries, gaining valuable knowledge of the design and fabrication of process equipment, as well as how it is tested after failures. This experience provides him the unique ability to consult on the design of new equipment and on potential repairs to bring existing equipment back into compliance. Additionally, clients value Bill’s extensive knowledge of the various inspection codes and standards (API / STI / AWS), and how they relate to the federal and state inspection requirements on process equipment and process piping. Bill is an API & PADEP Certified Inspector. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Construction Technology from the Williamson College of the Trades.

Todd Summers, ISA

Todd Summers, ISA

Todd entered the field of Process Control Instrumentation Services in 1991 and has been with TAI since 2001. He directs his team in achieving a company-wide goal for TAI to be the preferred calibration service provider for all current and future customers, particularly in the industrial and life sciences sectors. As the director of operations for TAI’s Instrumentation & Controls Field Services and Electronic Lab Calibration services, Todd assists in the management of more than 20 field service technicians. His primary duties include marketing, business development, maintaining and expanding the division’s customer base, proposal development, and providing the division manager with needed support and development. Todd is also responsible for maintaining the division’s ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation. He is a member of the International Society of Automation (ISA) and the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE).
