Project Details


The Client hired TAI as their engineering partner to perform the detailed engineering phase and follow-on construction management/contracting for Methanol processing (unloading, filter, storage, distillation and refinements) and packaging at their Fairlawn, NJ facility. The new system was incorporated into an existing Still #5 train (previously used for Heptane) as defined in the preliminary engineering documents and scope of project work provided. This project was divided into two phases: In Phase I, TAI provided detailed design, engineering, and construction documents. For Phase II, TAI provided construction and contracting services.

This was a plant retrofit project that required extensive field work to complete design. Continual communication between the plant’s operations was required such that construction activities would not interfere with production. Strict health and safety protocols were followed as the major of construction was completed during the COVID-19 pandemic.


TAI delivered project management, design, engineering and construction services for the Methanol Filtering and Packaging project, including a dedicated Project Manager and Construction Manager for Phase II. Some details of the project are as follows:

  • Methanol Tank Trailer Off-Loading
  • Carbon Bed Filtering
  • Methanol transfers to 8000- and 5000-gallons process tanks.
  • Distillation involving a new condenser with enhanced controls.
  • Re-purpose receiving/pack out from Heptane service to Methanol.
  • Packaging, rinsing, filtration, variable container flush, and container fill.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and delays associated with unforeseen underground obstructions. TAI was able to finish the project on time and on budget.
