Water Wastewater Utility System Disinfection Upgrades

The Water Wastewater Utility upgraded the disinfection system by replacing the existing gas chlorination system with a 12.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) on-site generation system. TAI provided engineering and design services and the review of equipment specification data in support of the project.

TAI provided services such as project management, engineering, design, documentation and consultation services in support of the equipment supply and start-up on this project. Specific to structural engineering, TAI analyzed and prepared reinforcement design drawings for 10 equipment skids. Because of the corrosive environment where these skids were located, they were constructed of pultruded fiber-reinforced plastic (PFRP) members. TAI’s analysis revealed that each skid required extensive reinforcement design consisting of stainless steel cross bracing, stiffeners, plates and connection angles.

• TAI obtained a Professional Engineers license in this state to provide structural certification of applicable structural and seismic design calculations, analysis, and drawings as needed to be licensed in the state.
• The project consisted of two parallel 2,500 ppd generator skids.
• The skids varied in size measuring approximately 2.75’ x 7’, 7’ x 10’, and 7’ x 14.5’.
• The skids were elevated and supported by reinforced concrete piers approximately one foot above finished floor.
• The skids were constructed indoors and supported equipment and piping ranging from 700 to 14,000-pounds.
• The skids were analyzed for Occupancy Category IV, Seismic Site Class “D” and Seismic Design Category “D”.
