Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Services

TAI's Process Controls / Instrumentation Division is a full service group with the capability to perform an extensive array of consulting, study, design, and programming services. We are a leader in providing novel process control solutions to demanding applications.

TAI provides expert consulting at the beginning stages of a project when critical decisions are made to assure that the control systems are reliable, robust, and cost effective. TAI then provides a strong design effort to facilitate the installation. This stage typically includes equipment selection/specificaiton, instrumentation design, programming, HMI, and construction documents. Finally TAI provides the field services necessary during construction, commissioning, and start-up to assure that each control system operates properly, effectively, and within the project's schedule. This approach results in quality services that satisfy each client's needs.

A sample of systems and equipment with which TAI has expertise follows:

PLC Control Systems:

  • Allen Bradley
  • Siemens
  • Modicon/Schneider Electric
  • GE Fanuc
  • Square D

DCS Control Systems:

  • Moor (Siemens)
  • ABB/Bailey
  • Honeywell
  • FoxBoro
  • Emerson Process Mgmt (Fisher)

Human Machine Interface (HMI):

  • PLC/DCS manufacturer specific HMI
  • Wonderware
  • Intellution

For clients regulated by the FDA, TAI also provides expertise in each phase of the GAMP (Good Automated Manufacturing Practice) life cycle for process controls including:

  • Functional Requirement
  • Hardware/Software Specification (Detailed Design Specification)
  • Modular Sotware Configuration
  • Site Acceptance Testing
  • IQ & OQ Protocol Development and Implementation
  • Change Management
  • Electronic Signatures & Records (21 CFR Part 11)

From simple systems to complex, old technologies to new, TAI has the know-how to make our clients' process control and instrumentation systems work reliably and effectively.

TAI's I&C Engineers design, integrate, and implement control systems for a multitude of industries. The fully integrated systems are capable of providing full functioning operator interface graphic displays at multiple plant floor locations, optimize system performance, generate historical collection of data, provide greater accessibility of plant floor data supervisory systems, and incorporate flexiblity to allow for hardware and software enhancements in the future. TAI engineers have designed and implemented large and small scale control systems for new plant processes, as well as retrofits to existing process and machine controls. Our engineers manage all facets involved in the implementation and commissioning of PLC and DCS controlled systems, including the following specific areas of I & C Engineering expertise:

  • Process Theory and Control System Design
  • P & ID Development
  • Instrumentation Sizing, Specification and Selection
  • PLC / DCS Hardware Design and Selection
  • Construction Drawings and Bid Package Development
  • Electrical, Instrumentation, and Process
  • Functional Spec Development
  • PLC / DCS Programming
  • Human-Machine Interface Development
  • PLC / HMI / plant-wide network
  • Communication Architecture Design
  • PLC Control Panel Design
  • I/O Wiring Diagrams
  • Loop Drawings
  • Motor Control Diagrams
  • Logic Diagrams
  • Interlock Documentation
  • Construction Management and Startup Commissioning
  • PLC / HMI / General I & C Engineering Support

TAI's Controls and Instrumentation engineers specialize in all facets of control system design and implementation. TAI's I & C project managers are experienced in engineering control systems involving a wide range of I/O devices, just a few I/O points to several thousand I/O points. The following pages spotlight samples of the projects that TAI's I & C engineers have managed and engineered over the past several years.
